What do you like most about your job?

The favorite part of my job is meeting with prospective students and their families, whether it is at a college fair, at their high school, or they are visiting campus. They are usually pretty excited about the college search and eager to learn about what Rose-Hulman has to offer. I really enjoy our move-in day at orientation when the new students arrive and families are helping them get settled in. It is a good mix of emotions – nervous, proud, some sad, but mostly excited about their bright futures.

I have had the distinct pleasure of learning from some of the best in the admissions business at Rose and so glad to be a part of the Rose-Hulman community.

Being Part of Growth and Success

The best thing for me is getting to know some of our students, following them through their time at Rose (in the play, on the sports field, hearing about their volunteering, reading about their accolades in the lab or classroom), and then getting to see them when they come to the career fairs to recruit for their companies. Seeing their updates on Facebook and in Echoes – marriages, babies, promotions, etc. And thinking about how much they have grown from when I met them on a campus visit or at their high school and seeing how confident and competent they are. I am probably most proud of just being a part of their growth and success. I am also very proud of our entire Enrollment Management team. We are small but mighty! The amount of work our team is able to accomplish is remarkable.

What is your favorite Rose-Hulman memory?

Favorite memory? This is a tough one. Some of my favorite memories are of working with the A-Team students (our tour guide team). We had a group that liked to have “Baked Goods Fridays” and we would all pitch in. I was always so impressed with what they would come up with. 

How do you spend your free time?

Free time is spent with my family and attending my kids’ activities (I have a daughter that is a sophomore in high school that will begin the college search soon and a 7th-grade son). I also love to watch sports from my son’s Little League baseball games to college and professional sports teams. I follow all the local high school and college sports activities.

Lori Olson

Mechanical engineering professor Lori Olson is studying how inverse electrocardiography can help with the early detection of breast cancer. A winner of the Board of Trustees Outstanding Scholar Award, she is a strong proponent for student undergraduate research experiences and co-founded the institute’s Independent Projects and Research Opportunities program.

Kelly Noel

Kelly Noel is a busy electrical engineering alumna. She’s a wife, mother of a hockey-playing daughter, an award-winning young professional with experience in the health care industry and she’s giving back to RHIT as president of the Alumni Association’s Advisory Board.

Rebecca Bercich

Rebecca Bercich

Rebecca Bercich is an assistant professor of mechanical engineering whose areas of expertise and research are in assistive medical devices, mechatronic systems, and plastic recycling technology for closed-loop economies. Bercich has earned teaching awards throughout her graduate studies and served as a guest speaker at Women in Engineering programs that encouraged high school students to explore STEM careers.
