Course Descriptions

Our engineering design program offers an intensive hands-on education taught by experienced professors from both engineering and the humanities and social sciences. The program is designed to teach students the depth and breadth of the design process along with the necessary technical tools and professional skills to improve the world we live in. Engineering Design is an undergraduate program.

ENGD 110 - Circuits, Software Development, and Societal Impact Design Studio

Extends the design process to include the development of software, the use of instrumentation and measurement techniques, and the consideration of scientific research and technological development within cultural, historical, and social contexts and values. Introduces fundamental principles and techniques of programming, including classes, objects, and methods. Surveys types of sensors and basic principles of circuit design (including Ohm鈥檚 Law, Kirchoff鈥檚 Laws). Supplies context in ideas about technical progress and scientific facts, the role of design in social institutions, and issues of gender facing technical professionals and knowledge domains. Students may not receive credit towards graduation for both ENGD110 and any of CSSE120, ES213, or HUM H239 (formerly IA239).
