The Graduate Studies and Curriculum Committees have defined the courses that can be applied toward approved plans of study for graduate degrees. While all 500- or 600-level courses are considered approved for Graduate plans of study, several 400-level courses have also been approved. These courses will carry the Graduate Studies Eligible (GSE) designation in the Course Catalog. Further, below are the general conditions for using 400-level courses in a graduate plan of study.
- Any non-GSE-designated 400-level course must be approved by the student's advisory committee and Graduate Studies Committee.
- A maximum of 12 hours of 400-level coursework can count toward the degree requirements.
- The Graduate Studies Committee must approve any exceptions to the 12-hour limit.
Students must verify whether any additional program-specific rules exist for 400-level courses. No courses below the 400-level may be applied to the Master's degree. Finally, 400-level courses may not be dual-counted for concurrent pursuance of Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Only 500-level courses may be dual-counted. (Concurrent Pursance)
