GET A HEAD START ON YOUR MASTER'S DEGREE!

The Rose Squared concurrent degree program (R2) allows you to put your qualifying Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and other earned college credits in science, math and the humanities to work for you!

In the Rprogram, you take graduate-level coursework while pursuing your undergraduate engineering education, allowing you to earn two degrees – a Bachelor of Science in engineering, math or science (BS) and a Master of Engineering Management (MEM) or other academic program – in just four years.

The Rose Squared Program

Admitted incoming students can submit the identification of interest form once their admitted student portal is available.

Current Rose-Hulman students interested in participating in R2 should complete and submit an identification of interest form to the Associate Dean of Lifelong Learning after their first quarter of enrollment (to allow for the most appropriate academic advising). Submission of the identification of interest form does not guarantee acceptance into the graduate program.

The Associate Dean of Lifelong Learning will review completion of – or progress toward – the required earned credits and (if appropriate) grant approval for advisement into the desired track of enrollment.

Upon reaching junior status, R2 students formally apply to the graduate program, and take concurrent classes during their last two years at Rose.

The best decision I ever made was doing the engineering management master’s...It opened so many doors. I’m very, very happy with it. I sometimes feel a little too junior for (my project management role), but that’s the other thing you get with this is the opportunity for a mid-level career position.

QUICKLY ADVANCE YOUR CAREER WITH A MASTER OF CIVIL ENGINEERING SPECIALIZING IN STRUCTURES

Engineers with a Master’s degree earn higher starting salaries and have more opportunities in Structural Engineering.  The extra training lets you work on more challenging projects, which accelerates your opportunities to be a project manager.  Plus, your time as a graduate student counts toward your Professional Engineer license.

Careers You Can Pursue With A BS/MCE Dual Degree in Civil Engineering specializing in structures

There are many Structural Engineering opportunities with only a BS degree, but the high-profile challenging projects typically go to engineers with a Master’s degree.  High-rise buildings, cable-stayed bridges, sports arenas all get designed by Master’s degree engineers.

QUICKLY ADVANCE YOUR CAREER WITH A MASTER OF ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT

An MEM offers the management focus of a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with an added technical focus. In this pilot R2 program, we provide you a fast track to the integration of management skills and critical technical knowledge with foundational skills in your academic major, increasing the breadth of professional employment opportunities upon graduation.

The objective of the MEM program is to prepare graduates for early career advancement in the field of Engineering by building upon your undergraduate training with advanced coursework and concentrated study of problems and topics relevant to the field.

CAREERS YOU CAN PURSUE WITH A BS/MEM DUAL DEGREE

A Master of Engineering Management provides Rose-Hulman alumni a unique skill set to bring to organizations. Our graduates often take on expanded roles in their STEM fields, which guide both the engineering and operational processes within their organizations. Other alumni have taken their engineering and expanded educational experiences into non-traditional engineering fields ranging from human resources to marketing, sales to the supply chain.

Our students are primarily engineers who love their discipline, but see themselves adding a larger impact and broader vision to the organization by looking at both its engineering and operational aspects. They are leaders who have a desire to be in the engineering management role, without giving up their true technical identity.

When Can I Apply to the Rose Squared Program?

Students admitted for Fall 2022 can submit the identification of interest form once their admitted student portal is available.

The Associate Dean of Lifelong Learning will review completion of – or progress toward – the required earned credits and (if appropriate) grant approval for advisement into the desired track of enrollment (currently, undergraduate major and graduate program in Engineering Management).

Upon reaching junior status, R2 students formally apply to the graduate program, and take concurrent classes during their last two years at Rose.

Do I have to pay more to get a master's degree in four years?

The R2 program allows you to put your earned college credits to work, so you can complete both your undergraduate and graduate degrees in four-years at no extra cost.

Students in the program receive institutional gift assistance (grant and merit) for four years (12 quarters) to support their undergraduate and graduate coursework.

To qualify for assistance, students must be making satisfactory academic progress and pursuing 12 or more credits quarterly which may be combined between undergraduate and graduate coursework.
